Letter from the League President

In the last several months there has been some confusion concerning recreational baseball in Northern Suffolk. Our Bennett’s Creek Little League is poised to start its 41^st season of recreational baseball this spring and is excited about the upcoming spring season. BCLL is offering registration for boys and girls ages 5 through 12 and offers both baseball and softball. All registration dates are available on this web site.

The confusion has occurred as another recreational league was formed last year to offer baseball for ages 13 through 17. This league was formed by former Little League Board Members and was specifically established to provide a safer venue for this older age group. Sadly, this older age group was struggling as traveling to some areas was suspect. Although not under the Little League charter, Bennett s Creek Little League supported this transition.

An agreement was made that BCLL would handle the 5-12 age groups and the other league would handle the 13 and up group.

Unfortunately and against their word, they have decided to offer baseball for ages 9-12 this year. They did this after asking our Board of Directors to drop Little League charters and join their league. Our board voted against this change.

To further add to the confusion, this other league has mailed our players a flyer introducing their changes. We found this unethical and have legal representation handling the situation. It seems one of their representatives has used our information to develop their data base. As most of that Board served on the BCLL Board, this was easy to determine. BCLL wants to make it perfectly clear we did not authorize use of our data base and apologize to parents that someone has used children’s names and addresses for their benefit. We feel our legal representation will put an end to these actions immediately. BCLL would never, under any circumstances, release the names and addresses of your children to any organization.

In conclusion, you now have two options for recreational baseball in Northern Suffolk. We at BCLL are proud of our product and have 40 years of experience and tenure serving the youth. We offer a great family experience with one location where all your children can play baseball and softball in a safe and structured environment. We are supported by several businesses in the area as well as many generous individuals. Little League International has a wonderful support mechanism which provides an unmatched Little League World Series. Whatever decision you choose, BCLL or any other organization, we at Bennett’s Creek Little League hope you have your child or children involved in organized baseball or softball, as it truly is a great recreational sport that aids in developing our youth to be quality citizens.
